ZACHARIUS 1982
The fantastic novelistic inspiration of Jules Verne‘s story guided Zannetti in the creation of a diver model with a unique and absolutely out of the ordinary design.
The first important choice was that of the material: bronze. Composed of an alloy of copper and tin, has a lower melting point than steel and an average 10% higher density than steel. Important detail: although bronze is usually less hard and less resistant than steel, it is however more elastic and more resistant to corrosion, especially from sea water, it also resists solicitations better.
For an Italian manufacturer like ZANNETTI it is impossible not to remember how bronze is a material linked to many sculptures, such as the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius dating back to the 2nd century AD. and the two famous statues the Riace Bronzes dating back to the 5th century BC.
On the dial we find a fairy-tale graphic that draws us into the futuristic world of Jules Verne: the vertical grid, in black enamel, engraved once again on bronze, echoes the air intake of a submarine or the cabin of a hot air balloon. The hands take us back to the 19th century, they make us rediscover a watchmaking art made of manual skills, unique pieces, dedication to the construction of every single timepiece. Like Zacharius, the Roman master becomes part of his watches, because in the manual skills that distinguish each single piece, we find inspiration, inventiveness but also the craft of its creator.
Nothing is left to chance and everything contributes to creating a one-of-a-kind diver model, where creativity, craftsmanship, choice of materials and precision coexist in a unique and distinctive way. It is no coincidence that the 1982 Zacharius fully dives into the celebratory models of Zannetti’s 40th anniversary: 1982-2022.
